First Appearance of Two-Face: Detective Comics #66 Value

Two-Face first appeared in Detective Comics #66, cover-dated August 1942. In that story he is Harvey "Apollo" Kent, a district attorney prosecuting the mob boss Sal Maroni. During the trial Maroni throws acid in his face, scarring one side, and the shock turns Kent to crime; he decides between good and evil by flipping a scarred coin (Wikipedia). The surname became Dent later. Wikipedia credits Bob Kane as the creator.

Modern versions add a deeper cause: Harvey has dissociative identity disorder rooted in childhood abuse by his father, who flipped a double-headed coin to decide whether to beat him.
