First Appearance of Sabretooth: Iron Fist #14 Value

Sabretooth first appeared in Iron Fist #14, cover-dated August 1977, created by Chris Claremont and John Byrne (Wikipedia). He began as an enemy of Iron Fist, not of Wolverine, and Wikipedia says he was first shown as a serial killer known as "the Slasher". PriceCharting lists the issue as the first appearance of Sabretooth (Victor Creed).

His tie to the X-Men came later. As a member of the Marauders he fought Wolverine during the 1986 "Mutant Massacre" crossover, in The Uncanny X-Men #219 and #221 to #222 (Wikipedia).

Iron Fist #14 exists with two cover prices. Recalled Comics explains that between June and October 1977 Marvel tested a 5-cent price increase in a small market, so most copies show 30¢ in the price box and a few show 35¢.

• What it sold for: Recalled Comics reports a CGC 9.4 35¢ copy sold for $8,365 at Heritage Auctions in November 2016 and a CBCS 9.0 for $3,550 on eBay. These are 2016 sales, not current prices.

• Who is older? Wikipedia's Wolverine article says Sabretooth is somewhat older than Logan, who was born in Canada in the late 19th century according to the Origin miniseries. Sabretooth's exact age is not known.
• Is he Wolverine's father? Chris Claremont originally meant him to be, but Wikipedia says S.H.I.E.L.D. genetic tests confirmed they are not father and son.
• Is he related to Mystique? Yes, through a child: Wikipedia says Sabretooth fathered Graydon Creed with Mystique during his time on Team X.
• Is he Nightcrawler's father? No. In 2003 the comics named the mutant Azazel as Nightcrawler's father; the 2023 story X-Men Blue: Origins changed this again, making Mystique and Destiny his parents (Wikipedia). Sabretooth has never been named as his father in the sources we checked.
